Project approach

Emilio DiIorio has spent his life moving between surgery, engineering, and art. His studios gave us a way to show the argument in You Are Creative: creativity develops through practice. Worktables, flat files, materials, and decades of accumulated work became part of the portrait.

I brought preparation steps from his book into the shoot itself. Environmental portraits placed Emilio among the things he makes; the film made room for his gentleness, sharpness, and quick humor. His own working life gave the book’s invitation something concrete to connect with.
